Frieda

From Ruth Ann Steuber, Saturday, September 20

I know that many of you are praying for us and waiting to hear further info re mom. Further consults with the neurologist have indicated that mom’s stroke was in the area that affects speech and understanding, her cognitive functions. Since being admitted Tuesday she has been agitated and unable to communicate much of the time and has fought every type of treatment. Her lucid moments have been few. She isn’t a good candidate for rehab. We know that mom never wanted to spend her last days in a nursing home or just being cared for. We have made the difficult decision to discharge her to hospice. She remains in the Ft Dodge Unity Point Medical center, room 366. She will be transferred (likely on Monday) to a hospice facility in DesMoines. We chose that location because there my brother and sister, her grandson and family can more easily spend time with her and I can stay at Alan’s home in Clive to be close by. I will want to be with mom as much as possible. I needed to return to Wisconsin yesterday to manage a few things. I will head back to Ft Dodge tomorrow morning and will stay then until God takes her home. Her wish was to be cremated, so we will delay her celebration of life until we have things in place. We feel so blessed to have had our mom for so long and that she remained vibrant, capable and full of life until her neurological event Tuesday afternoon. She would have me send her love to all of you, she was always concerned for others. Thank you all for your prayers and for reaching out. I will keep you informed as best I can.

Monday, September 22

We are here in Des Moines Taylor House Unity Point Hospice, room six. It’s beautiful, staff are good and caring. Just got settled in. Mom is semi alert and she seems to understand us, just can’t say understandable words.

Arnold Flessner

Update 5/11 – funeral info, visitation details, and a place to share memories & photos can be found at https://www.dahlfuneralhome.com/obituary/arnold-flessner It would be a welcome blessing to see any photos you have or to read any stories you share there. Thank you!

Update – 5/10 – Dad went to heaven this afternoon, peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by family. We’ll have details about services hopefully by Wednesday afternoon.

Quick update – as of yesterday afternoon, my dad Arnold Flessner entered into hospice at Allen hospital. He’s been getting treatment for cancer for the last year and a half, but a couple of other conditions and an infection brought him to the hospital a week ago. One treatment after another failed to correct what was going on, and yesterday he was just ready to stop being poked and prodded. In his words – “I’m ready to go to heaven.”

Throughout the last week, he’s been bringing smiles and laughter to everyone coming to the room, from family and friends to the nursing and custodial staff. Stories and memories are shared with everyone. Winks, smiles, and nods communicate when words don’t. We’re sad to see him go, but we also know we’re not saying goodbye, just “see you later”.

We’re requesting only family try to visit, and please drop us a line first. We know Dad was well-loved by many, but our family time is precious right now. Thanks for understanding.

We’ll post updates here.

2012 Reunion in Pocahontas, IA

The reunion was held at the Legion Hall in Pocahontas, IA. I’m sorry I don’t have many more pictures than this; if anyone else has any feel free to send them my way!

2010 Reunion in Pomeroy, IA

The 2010 Buenting reunion was held in Pomeroy, Iowa. The new enclosed shelter house in the Pomeroy Park was a provided a great covered, yet open-air meeting location and the nearby park offered many activities for the little ones.

Welcome to BuentingFamily.com!

Welcome to the Buenting family homepage! This is the home for the descendants of Heinrich Buenting (1873-1943) and Ollie Hanssen (1879-1973), though if other Buentings are interested, it may expand.  As of June, ’08, we’re just starting to layout what the site will actually look like, so give us a few days/weeks to figure it all out (and perhaps, for someone more eloquent than I to write some information!).

2008 Reunion in Newton, IA

The 2008 reunion was held at the East Iowa Bible Camp in Newton, IA, an amazing facility with a large meeting room, hotel-like sleeping rooms, and fun activities like miniature golf for the kids.
